A chemical spill occurred at the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute (TBSI) on Pearse Street in Dublin city centre at about 11am on Tuesday. Three people were taken to St James' Hospital and have since been discharged. Dublin Fire Brigade and An Garda Síochána responded, with firefighter/paramedics, advanced paramedics, the hazardous materials unit from Donnybrook, district officers and ambulances attending the scene. Firefighters were called to reports of an explosion in a laboratory. The building was closed for environmental cleaning and is scheduled to reopen. TBSI houses research and teaching activity across multiple Trinity schools, including Biochemistry, Immunology, Chemistry, Medicine, Pharmacy and Biomedical Engineering.
