Lydia Hinds, aged 81, works at Home Depot, feeling overwhelmed yet necessary to support her household. She struggles with her heart condition, unable to perform all job duties, yet has received promotions. Her husband, Bill, 90, wishes he could contribute financially but is hindered by health issues. They rely on Lydia's $300 weekly income to cover essential expenses, facing dire financial situations, at one point having only 44 cents in savings and uncertainty regarding their next meal.
"I feel trapped working, but I can't stop working," Lydia says, sitting up to cuddle her basset hound, Brigette. Her husband, Bill, gives her a kiss but lets her be.
In the first four hours, she paused several times to catch her breath, so she clocked out an hour early.
If she stopped working and lost her $300 weekly pay after taxes, she and Bill fear they couldn't afford rent.
A few weeks back, they had 44 cents in savings. They weren't sure what they would eat for dinner.
