The 'fantastic' baby bundles not every mum will get
"I was surprised when my midwife told me I could get a parcel of baby clothes and other items before the baby arrives. It's a fantastic idea and a real practical help."
"It does say there are more locations that are going to be added to the Flying Start network... but nothing yet."
"hugely beneficial to a lot of people"
The Welsh government will deliver baby bundles containing clothing, blankets, bibs, muslin cloths, a thermometer, a bilingual book and a playmat to expectant families in Flying Start catchment areas. Eligible families can register through their midwife for delivery between 32 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. The programme targets the most deprived communities and aims to support new parents with essential supplies. Midwives can register only a limited number of families who do not meet eligibility but are in need of support. The Bevan Foundation and political parties want the scheme expanded to include more families outside current catchment areas.
