Ontario experienced a rapid increase in opioid-related deaths during the pandemic, particularly noticeable in shelters due to the unpredictable and dangerous illicit drug supply.
Many deaths in shelters were linked to the use of methamphetamine to counter sedation from opioids, increasing harm for this population.
