No date for restarting baby deliveries at hospital
Briefly

The University Hospital of Hartlepool has paused intrapartum care at the Rowan Suite maternity unit due to staffing shortages and illness. This pause was announced in May and is reviewed monthly with no established time for resuming deliveries. Despite the pause, antenatal and postnatal care along with home births continue as normal. Health officials believe the interruption will minimally impact the local population, as the unit primarily handles low-risk pregnancies. In an 18-month period, the trust recorded 4,000 births, most occurring at the North Tees hospital.
The midwife-led Rowan Suite maternity unit at the University Hospital of Hartlepool has paused intrapartum care since May due to staffing shortages, reviewing the situation monthly.
Health officials stated the pause in intrapartum care will have a "quite small impact" on the Hartlepool population, as it mainly serves low-risk pregnancies.
A recent report indicated that 4,000 births occurred in the trust area over 18 months, with 97% of women delivering at the University Hospital of North Tees.
The hospital remains committed to providing the service and will continue to offer antenatal and postnatal care, as well as home births, during the pause.
