South Carolina's measles outbreak has 876 confirmed cases, the largest U.S. outbreak in decades. The outbreak began in October and exceeded the 2025 Texas outbreak within 16 weeks. The rate of new confirmed cases has slowed, with 29 new cases reported on Tuesday, a marked decrease from recent weeks, though it remains too soon to confirm a sustained slowdown. Vaccinations increased substantially: 162% higher in January in Spartanburg County compared with last year and 72% higher statewide. At least 19 people, including children and adults, have been hospitalized. Common complications include encephalitis and pneumonia.
