Transit plays a vital role in individual lives, especially for those using it to access work and education. Growing up in the Bay Area, transit was crucial for navigating daily life without a car. Involvement in transit advocacy began when proposed cuts threatened local services, driving personal engagement to push for improvements. The pandemic underscored public transit's importance for essential workers, prompting efforts to maintain services. During the VTA strike, advocacy efforts focused on elevating riders' voices and frustrations, ensuring representation in crucial discussions about public transportation.
Transit has been an essential part of my life, connecting me to school, work, and opportunities. Without it, I wouldn’t have graduated debt-free.
When transit cuts were proposed, I became involved in advocacy. I realized the importance of fighting for better service and projects.
Understanding the struggles faced by essential workers during the pandemic motivated me to fight against transit cuts and advocate for the services they depended on.
I made sure riders had a voice during the VTA strike, representing their frustrations and pushing leaders to be more responsive.
