Lucy Letby hospital investigation: three bosses arrested on suspicion of manslaughter
Briefly

Three bosses at the Countess of Chester hospital have been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, part of an investigation into the hospital's leadership decisions linked to increasing fatalities. Lucy Letby, a former neonatal nurse, was convicted of murdering seven babies and is currently seeking to overturn her convictions. The investigation began after Letby's conviction and focuses on determining if there's been any criminality in the actions or inaction of individuals connected to the hospital's management during the events in question. The arrests are the first since Letby's original arrest in 2018.
In October 2023, following the lengthy trial and subsequent conviction of Lucy Letby, Cheshire constabulary launched an investigation into corporate manslaughter at the Countess of Chester hospital, focusing on senior leadership and their decision making regarding increased fatalities.
On Monday 30th June, three individuals who were part of the senior leadership team at the Countess of Chester Hospital in 2015-16 were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, marking the first arrests since Letby's original arrest in July 2018.
This investigation, which expanded in March 2025 to include gross negligence manslaughter, examines the actions of individuals rather than corporate decisions, highlighting potential criminality in the hospital's response to fatalities.
Lucy Letby, a former neonatal nurse convicted of multiple murders, is seeking to overturn her convictions at the Criminal Cases Review Commission after her attempts to do so in the court of appeal were unsuccessful.
