Live poultry markets may be source of bird flu virus in San Francisco wastewater
Briefly

Federal officials are investigating live bird markets near wastewater treatment facilities as a potential source of avian flu virus found in area samples, with two 'hits' of the virus detected in June.
Hits of the virus were also found in wastewater samples from other Bay Area cities, prompting questions about the presence of live bird markets in these areas and the regular testing they undergo for avian influenza.
Despite a detection in a San Francisco live bird market in May, no other positives have been identified in Live Bird Markets throughout the state during this current outbreak of highly-pathogenic avian flu.
