Covid led to 58 deaths last year as vaccines helped save 9,360 lives

The figures, which cover the period from January 2023 to the first week of this year, show the median age of the sickest patients with Covid was 70.

Countries that implemented early vaccination programmes, including Ireland, covering large parts of the population, saw the greatest benefit in the number of lives saved overall through vaccination.
