"The first time I kind of thought it was bad luck but the second time I thought 'well I was 15, I really should have been able to know what to do'."
"The truth is it can happen to anyone at any time. I think that's what a lot of people don't realise, and I think that's why everyone needs to be fully equipped to be able to step in and do it."
A 16-year-old from Gourock lost his father to cardiac arrest and his mother to a heart attack three years earlier. He persuaded his Inverclyde school to introduce first-aid and CPR training and launched a campaign called Pulse of Life to expand training across Scotland. He estimates he lost about two and a half minutes panicking when his father collapsed and believes earlier CPR knowledge could have enabled him to help. Clydeview Academy pupils now learn chest-compression CPR as a potentially life-saving measure. The campaign emphasizes that cardiac emergencies can affect anyone at any time and urges universal preparedness.
