Jack Moran and Andrew Roth, both Holocaust survivors from different corners of the world, recently reunited in Los Angeles, reflecting on their harrowing experiences during World War II. Roth, who survived the Buchenwald and Auschwitz camps, and Moran, who was part of the U.S. Army that liberated Buchenwald, shared a poignant moment, emphasizing the significance of their stories as the number of survivors dwindles. They met to contribute to the USC Shoah Foundation’s efforts in collecting testimonials before memories fade, underscoring the urgency in preserving Holocaust history and educating future generations about the atrocities committed.
The Nazis systematically killed an estimated six million Jews in the Holocaust. Today, just over 220,000 Holocaust survivors remain worldwide, according to the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.
The USC Shoah Foundation is racing against time to gather these testimonies, uncover more Holocaust history, and increase global understanding of the genocide.
