27 US states to feel hotter than the Sahara Desert TODAY
Briefly

A heat dome is currently impacting 27 states, subjecting over 130 million Americans to extreme temperatures. Heat advisories and excessive heat warnings are in effect from Texas to the Northeast. In areas like Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, temperatures may rise to between 110 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit. The combination of high temperatures and humidity increases the risk of heat-related issues, prompting officials to advise staying indoors, staying hydrated, and using cooling centers. NWS cautions about severe temperature increases in cars and the dangers posed to children and pets.
"The combination of scorching days and warm, humid nights pose the highest risk of heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke."
"Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events," the NWS warned in an alert.
"Never leave children or pets in vehicles. Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes," NWS officials warned.
"A heat dome works like a lid. High pressure builds overhead, trapping hot air at the surface, suppressing clouds, and intensifying sunlight."
