1-year-old CA boy dies after being left in hot car while mom got cosmetic procedure, police say
Briefly

A California mother is facing charges after her 1-year-old son, Amillio Gutierrez, died when left in a hot car while she attended a cosmetic appointment. The vehicle's air conditioning was off, and authorities believe the children were unattended for at least 90 minutes. Amillio had a body temperature of 107 degrees before hospitalization. His grandmother expressed her devastation over the tragedy, stating it was out of character for the mother to act irresponsibly, as she was usually a loving parent who cared for her children.
"They were strapped in their car seats. They couldn't even get up to save themselves," Martinez said. "She literally locked them in their car seats and shut their doors."
"If you just take 20 minutes out of your day and go in your car and feel how it feels, I think that's the only thing that will teach you how to know what a kid feels," she said.
Authorities estimate the children were left without air conditioning for at least 90 minutes.
Hernandez has been arraigned on charges of involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment.
