Gen Z women more likely to identify as bisexual but lesbians aren't 'dying out'
Analysis of 913,253 users of sapphic dating app Zoe from 122 countries between January 2023 and May 2025 examined self-reported sexual identities across age and geography. Overall identities were lesbian (48.3%) and bisexual (39.8%), with pansexual (6.6%), queer (3.4%), gay (1.2%) and asexual (0.7%) following. Gen Z (born 1997–2006) most frequently reported bisexual (45%) then lesbian (42.2%). Use of the lesbian label rises with age, reaching 65% in the 50+ group, while bisexual identification falls to 25% in that group. Results emphasize generational differences and fluidity in identity labels.
"Younger generations are showing us that sexuality is not a fixed category - it's a spectrum,"
"Across the world, more young people are comfortable describing their identities in diverse and fluid ways."
"Our study is a reminder that technology isn't just transforming how people meet - it is reshaping how we understand ourselves and each other."
