The rollout of Google's Manifest V3 has led to the removal of certain Chrome extensions, including the popular ad blocker uBlock Origin, due to non-compliance with the new framework. While many users faced prompt notifications about disabled extensions, they could easily manage and activate them again through the extension settings. In contrast, AdBlock has adapted to comply with V3 and remains available, though with limitations on features like filtering and reporting ads. The shift to declarativeNetRequest API under Manifest V3 poses challenges for dynamic content blockers, prompting significant changes in how extensions function.
Under Manifest V3, the API is limited, and extensions are encouraged to use the new declarativeNetRequest API instead. This new API allows for predefined rules but lacks some of the dynamic capabilities that uBlock Origin utilizes for advanced content blocking.
If you are a long-time user of uBlock Origin, instead of removing the extension when prompted by Chrome, you can click to manage your extensions and simply turn it on again.
