The Browser Company will not develop new features for its Arc browser as it shifts focus to the AI-centric Dia browser. CEO Josh Miller explains that Arc has faced challenges like instability and complexity, hindering its mainstream appeal. Although Arc will not be discontinued, it will only receive security updates. The company plans to bolster its security infrastructure in response to growing AI-related risks. Miller emphasized that while open-sourcing Arc is a future consideration, it won't happen until it’s deemed safe for their team and stakeholders.
Arc will still get security and bug fixes, and will be tweaked as the Chromium code it's based on is updated. The Browser Company isn’t going to open-source or sell Arc.
The Arc browser was a big rethink of what browsers should be like, and it has dedicated users... but it was slow and unstable at times.
