Apple Inc. removed the decentralized messaging application Bitchat from the China App Store on February 28, 2026, following a demand from the Cyberspace Administration of China. The CAC claimed Bitchat violated Article 3 of its security assessment provisions, which require services capable of influencing public opinion to undergo a state-mandated security assessment. Bitchat, which operates via Bluetooth mesh networking, is still available in other global markets. The Testflight version of the app, which reached 10,000 users, has also been disabled for users in mainland China.
