""We are gravely disappointed that the protections provided by ADP are not available to our customers in the UK, given the continuing rise of data breaches and other threats to customer privacy""
Apple agreed with the Home Office to drop its legal appeal against a government order requiring capability for intelligence services and law enforcement to access encrypted data of Apple users worldwide. The Investigatory Powers Tribunal dismissed the claim on 6 October on the basis of a change in circumstances. A separate legal claim by Privacy International and Liberty is expected to continue. The Home Office issued a revised order limiting UK government access to encrypted iCloud data and messages to British users only. Apple withdrew its Advanced Data Protection (ADP) service from the UK and confirmed ADP remains unavailable to UK customers. The revised order followed disclosures that prompted diplomatic concerns with the US administration. Apple declined to comment on whether it will bring a new legal challenge against the revised order.
