Recent reports indicate that PayPal accounts can be unexpectedly linked to Facebook, potentially allowing unauthorized charges. Users like Jackie Marushka discovered charges on their credit card statements connected to Facebook, despite never having granted permissions for their payment information to be shared. Scammers often exploit linked accounts, especially after a Facebook hack. This can occur if the PayPal and Facebook accounts share the same email or users inadvertently grant access during sign-ups. Victims are advised to monitor their financial statements closely to identify any unauthorized transactions.
"I saw this really interesting Facebook charge for $13.95," she said.
"They had my PayPal, they had my debit card, and they had my credit card. All three," Jackie said.
"It didn't say 'ad.' It didn't say 'subscription.' There was none of that."
"Go through your statements. Know what you've paid for."
