UN says a record number of aid workers were killed in 2023 and this year's figures are also high
Briefly

A record number of aid workers were killed in conflicts around the world last year, with 280 deaths reported in 2023—more than double the previous year's figure.
More than half of last year's deaths occurred in the first three months of the Israel-Gaza war, primarily due to airstrikes. This year, 172 aid workers have already been killed as of early August.
Joyce Msuya, the U.N.'s acting emergency relief coordinator, stated that the normalization of violence against aid workers and lack of accountability is unacceptable and harmful for aid operations.
According to the United Nations, extreme violence in Sudan and South Sudan has contributed significantly to the deaths of aid workers both last year and this year.
