Thousands of medical records containing sensitive patient information were discovered in a Memphis storage unit that went up for auction after the owner failed to pay rent for three months. A hobbyist storage-buyer, Jason Lederfine, acquired the unit at auction and found boxes of file folders containing patient records, X-rays, intake forms, billing records, and Social Security numbers. The records were linked to Dr. Ajay Dave, a former Memphis dentist whose license expired in 2023. After being contacted about the discovery, the dentist reportedly paid the overdue rent and reclaimed the unit. Questions remain about who legally owned the unit's contents at the time of the auction.
