Police in southern Spain have prevented the theft of nearly half a tonne of olives during the beginning of the harvest season, arresting suspects in the process.
The Guardia Civil found seven individuals collecting olives unlawfully, leading to the arrest of a woman overseeing the operation and the discovery of forged cargo documents.
During the 2023-24 olive harvest, 48 people were arrested for theft, with nearly 213,489kg of olives recovered, highlighting the extent of olive theft.
In Seville, where organized crime has struck, police confiscated large quantities of stolen olives and fake olive oil, underscoring criminal activities surrounding lucrative harvests.
