Survey: ATM fees reach 26-year high while overdraft fees inch back up
Briefly

According to Bankrate's 2024 study, accessing out-of-network ATMs costs an average of $4.77, the highest since 1998, with fees rising overall.
Greg McBride, CFA, emphasized that if you go for out-of-network ATM withdrawals, you'll encounter two fees: one from the ATM and another from your bank.
The study also revealed that overdraft fees increased to an average of $27.08 this year, despite a recent trend of decreases, affecting 94% of accounts.
In contrast, nearly half of non-interest checking accounts charge no monthly service fees, demonstrating that free checking is still available to consumers.
