Obdulia Banuelos-Esparza was charged with extorting a security company, demanding payment in exchange for continuing the contract with the fairgrounds, threatening termination otherwise.
The DA's office reported that Banuelos-Esparza's alleged extortion began in the summer of 2020, leading to substantial, increasing monthly payments from the security company's owner.
District Attorney Jeff Rosen emphasized the importance of the fairgrounds for community events, stating, 'The fairgrounds are where our community goes for fairs, festivals and fun.'
Banuelos-Esparza potentially faces up to four years in county jail if convicted, highlighting the severity of the charge against her.
