Packaging tax will raise price of many everyday items, say UK firms
Briefly

Pev Manners, managing director of Belvoir Farm, expressed significant concern over the impending packaging tax, stating, "Our finance director estimates this tax will cost us 850,000 next year, so 100% of our profits." He highlighted the overarching impact of the Extended Producer Responsibility on product pricing, reflecting that any price increases could lead to reduced sales and ultimately harm smaller companies reliant on their margins.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs stated that the Extended Producer Responsibility was crucial in reducing waste, emphasizing, "These fees are our initial estimates. We are continuing to meet with the glass industry to discuss more workable approaches." However, Manners cautioned that such rapidly increasing costs would favor larger competitors using alternatives to glass.
