More FDNY members have died from 9/11-related illnesses than were killed in attack
Briefly

The number of firefighter deaths from 9/11-related illnesses now exceeds those who died on the day of the attack, highlighting the ongoing health crisis among first responders.
"As we do every year, we will reflect on the 343 members who died that day, and we will be sobered in knowing that those insurmountable losses did not end at the World Trade Center site," Fire Commissioner Robert S. Tucker stated. He emphasized that many members are now suffering from illnesses related to their rescue and recovery efforts.
Data indicates that since 9/11, 377 NYPD members have died from fatal illnesses, highlighting a staggering contrast to the 23 who lost their lives on duty that day.
"An estimated 400,000 people were exposed to toxic contaminants... in the days, weeks and months following the attacks," according to the CDC, showing the long-term health impacts of 9/11.
