Ms Phillips described the fear instilled by Arif as life-altering, stating, 'The abuse limited my freedom and my ability to do my job closely with the public as I used to do.'
Richard Purchase from the CPS emphasized the importance of MPs being able to perform their duties without fear, highlighting that, 'Members of Parliament have a right to perform their duties and represent their constituents without being subjected to derogatory messages that cause alarm and distress.'
Ms Phillips noted a troubling trend in the rising personal abuse faced by MPs, linking it to her decision to resign from the Labour party front bench over the Gaza vote.
