Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency have been ordered by Judge Tanya S. Chutkan to submit documents and answer inquiries regarding their actions involving mass firings and the dismantling of government programs. This ruling comes in a case led by 14 Democratic state attorneys general who argue Musk's authority has significant implications on operations. Their request aims to clarify Musk's group's role and authority, a matter of legal and public concern, especially as government lawyers have struggled to disclose specific information on these actions.
It is the first time a judge has ordered Mr. Musk's division be subject to discovery.
Keeling in another case, the government has also downplayed Mr. Musk's role, claiming he was not officially the group's leader.
