Google's Identity Check for Android keeps phone thieves out of your digital accounts
Briefly

Google has launched a new security feature called Identity Check for Pixel devices with Android 15, aimed at preventing unauthorized access to sensitive accounts in the event of theft. This feature requires biometric authentication to modify specific settings when users are not in trusted locations. Following trends in device thefts, similar to Apple's Stolen Device Protection, the implementation safeguards key settings against unauthorized changes, highlighting the growing importance of device security. Initially introduced in beta, Identity Check will also be available on select Samsung Galaxy devices and others later this year.
A stolen device in the wrong hands can expose sensitive data, leaving you vulnerable to identity theft, financial fraud and privacy breaches.
Settings protected by Android's Identity Check include changing your device's PIN, disabling theft protection, turning off Find My Device, factory resetting your device, and changing biometrics.
