Facebook and Instagram ad-free subscriptions are coming to the UK
"Today Meta has announced that ad-free subscriptions for both Facebook and Instagram are going to become available in the UK "over the coming weeks". These will give you the option to pay a fee to stop seeing ads on either service. The subscription cost will be £2.99 per month on the web and £3.99 per month if you subscribe on iOS or Android. The latter is more expensive because of the fees that Apple and Google charge through their stores."
"These prices are for the first account listed in your Account Center. For every subsequent one, you only pay £2 (on the web) or £3 (on iOS or Android) extra. This move comes "in response to recent UK regulatory guidance and following extensive engagement with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)", Meta says. Facebook and Instagram will begin notifying UK users over 18 that they have this choice of using the services without seeing ads."
Ad-free subscriptions for Facebook and Instagram will be offered in the UK as an opt-in, paid alternative to personalized ads. The monthly fee is £2.99 on the web and £3.99 on iOS or Android, with additional accounts priced at £2 on the web or £3 on mobile. The higher mobile price reflects Apple and Google store fees. The change responds to recent UK regulatory guidance and follows engagement with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). UK users aged over 18 will be notified of the option. Subscribing removes ads across Accounts Center-linked profiles that have been paid for; non-subscribers continue to receive personalized ads.
