FAA refers 43 reported abusive, unruly plane passengers to FBI, even as incidents fall from COVID highs
Briefly

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, airlines reported more than 1,400 cases of unruly passengers this year, with 43 referred to the FBI as severe cases.
FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker emphasized, 'There's absolutely no excuse for unruly behavior…it threatens the safety of everyone on board and we have zero tolerance for it.'
The FAA has not relaxed its restrictions despite a decline in incidents, maintaining a zero-tolerance policy established after a 500% increase in 2021 amid mask disputes.
More than half of the 43 cases referred to the FBI involved physical or sexual assault, highlighting the severity of the behavior being reported on flights.
