The National Crime Agency warns that the introduction of super-strength synthetic opioids, particularly nitazenes, has made drug use in the UK particularly perilous, with 284 confirmed deaths since June.
Graeme Biggar, NCA director-general, emphasized that users can die from the first use of nitazene, as its potency can make it virtually undetectable in recreational drugs.
The surge in drug-related deaths—up 60% over the past decade—highlights an alarming trend exacerbated by the prevalence of hazardous synthetic drugs in the market.
