Diverting TSA funds harms deployment of new tech, lawmakers warn

The diversion of funds from the Transportation Security Administration is harming its adoption of advanced security screening technologies, including facial biometrics, several House lawmakers told Nextgov/FCW.
Rep. Nick LaLota introduced legislation to officially end the fee diversion and establish an 'aviation security checkpoint technology fund' to help TSA acquire more advanced technologies.
We've kind of put everybody on notice that this needs to end and the government can no longer get a free ride off their travelers to pay other bills.
TSA's inability to quickly acquire and deploy new screening capabilities will have a long-term impact on airport security, 'despite there being a large pot of money that should be meant for this.'
