Recent warnings have emerged regarding the security risks associated with free VPN apps available on Android and iPhone. A report by the Tech Transparency Project highlights how these apps, intended to protect user privacy, may instead compromise it by routing internet traffic through Chinese firms. Despite earlier identifications, many of these apps remain in Apple and Google app stores. Experts are urging users to delete them, citing significant risks and emphasizing that individuals should avoid any VPNs owned by Chinese companies.
"Millions of Americans have downloaded apps that secretly route their internet traffic through Chinese companies," TTP says.
"In light of these findings, I strongly urge users to avoid Chinese-owned VPNs altogether," warns Top10VPNs Simon Migliano.
