Craig Adams, the owner of a $3.5 million Raleigh home, is grappling with a bizarre case of identity theft after a false warranty claim transferred his deed to a stranger.
Adams highlighted the lack of verification processes at the Wake County Register of Deeds, stating, 'There's no effort to authenticate the validity of the change of deed. Nobody verifies the notary.'
Despite proving he owned the house, Adams discovered he would have to hire a private attorney at an estimated cost of $8,000 to initiate legal action.
