Bonta stated, 'For decades, ExxonMobil has been deceiving the public to convince us that plastic recycling could solve the plastic waste and pollution crisis when they clearly knew this wasn't possible.'
ExxonMobil ramped up its production of plastics, promoting them as recyclable solutions through aggressive marketing, despite knowing the environmental impacts and the ineffectiveness of recycling in practice.
The lawsuit aims not only to stop ExxonMobil's deceptive practices but also to secure an abatement fund and civil penalties for the harm caused by their actions.
