Brad Pitt expressed deep sympathy for two women who lost over $350,000 to fraudsters posing as him, emphasizing the importance of not engaging with unsolicited online communications.
According to Spain's Guardia civil police, the criminals initially built trust with the victims through direct messaging. Eventually, they manipulated the women into sending large sums of money, disguised as investments in Pitt's projects.
The police detailed how the scammers meticulously studied the victims' social networks, creating psychological profiles that revealed the women’s vulnerabilities, lacking affection and suffering from depression.
Law enforcement has arrested five suspects involved in this scheme and charged them with various offenses including fraud and money laundering, with additional suspects still under investigation.
