Pulmonary Physicians of South Florida (PPSF), a provider of lung care services in Miami and surrounding areas, was attacked by the ransomware group Brain Cipher. They posted the organization on their dark web site with proof of the data compromise, which includes patient medication requests and a file tree suggesting a vast amount of data, specifically 423,920 files related to patient records. Despite multiple outreach attempts for comments and responses, neither PPSF nor Brain Cipher provided further information on the attack's scale or specifics regarding the data breach.
On February 19, the ransomware group known as Brain Cipher added the provider to their dark web leak site with proof of claims, including screenshots of a medication request.
The proof consisted of screenshots of a medication request for a named patient and a partial listing of folders on a drive containing patient last names and dates of birth.
