The Portland Bar That Screens Only Women's Sports
Briefly

Jenny Nguyen, originally a chef in Portland, found a community through basketball that highlighted the challenges of watching women's sports. Frustrated by their experiences watching games in silence, she envisioned a space dedicated to airing women's sports. In 2022, this vision became a reality with the opening of the Sports Bra, a pub in Northeast Portland where women's sports take center stage. This establishment not only broadcasts women's games but also fosters a supportive environment for fans, becoming a beloved part of the community's sports culture.
"I hugged my friend, and I was, like, 'That was the best game I've ever seen.' And she goes, 'Yeah, can you imagine if the sound was on?'"
"...I said, 'The only way we're ever going to watch women's sports the way it deserves is if we have our own place.'"
"...the Bra, as Nguyen calls it, is an institution imbued with that puckish idealism. Most of the twenty-odd TVs are showing women's sports."
