The Oakland Arena will host the PBR: Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour on April 19, showcasing professional bull riding as a unique and independent sport that began in 1992. Riders engage in an 8-second challenge against specially bred bulls. Competitor Edgardo Figueroa, who joined PBR in 2022, reflects on his lifelong dream of becoming a bull rider, inspired by childhood memories of watching PBR events. The competition serves as the season finale, with forty riders aiming for a chance at the championship in Corpus Christi, Texas, upcoming in May.
"I would get home from school and watch Tom and Jerry or PBR bull rides. And most of the time, I would have the PBR bull rides on," Figueroa said. "We had a little rocking horse, and I'd pretend that was a bull and I was in the PBR. Ever since those days that I was in diapers, the dream was always to be part of PBR."
"The more in control we are of our ride, the better the score," Figueroa said. "Judges are looking for how fast the bull is spinning, and the level of difficulty to stay on."
