Property Watch: A 1961 Midcentury on Mount Tabor with Marvelous Views
Briefly

Mt. Tabor is a historically rich neighborhood in Portland, showcasing a blend of late-19th century farmhouses and mid-20th century modern architecture. The area, once known for its orchards, was connected to downtown by railway in 1889 and saw the establishment of a park in 1909. A notable highlight is the discovery of an extinct volcanic cinder cone within the park, which inspired gold and later uranium prospecting. Today, the neighborhood features diverse homes, including C. H. Scrogin's midcentury design that merges historical charm with modern living.
The mid-1900s saw a second rush at Tabor, with locals searching for uranium, but they found as little of it as they did of the gold.
Originally designed by C. H. Scrogin for a retired wood importer, the home retains midcentury details, including slate-tiled entry and five fireplaces.
