Portland Preps for New, "Toes-in-the-Water" Riverfront Park
Briefly

The Tom McCall Bowl in Portland is poised for redevelopment thanks to a $750,000 grant from Metro to Portland Parks & Recreation. This strip of beach along the Willamette River has largely been underutilized, recognized mainly during events like the Waterfront Blues Festival. The Human Access Project and Portland Waterfront Pavilion have long advocated for improved access to the river. Willie Levenson, a key figure in promoting swimming and river activities, sees this project as a long-cherished dream that could significantly enhance the city's relationship with its waterfront.
"This is something the Human Access Project has dreamed would happen since we started 15 years ago. We're hopeful other people in Portland will be excited about it too."
"Levenson has worked for years to encourage and create opportunities for people to get in the water, recently developing popular swimming docks on the Eastbank Esplanade."
