Pleasanton and Livermore fire department facilities investigated for groundwater contamination as search for new wells continues
Briefly

Officials are investigating fire stations in Livermore and Pleasanton for contamination by PFAS, substances harmful to water quality. This follows Pleasanton's shutdown of wells due to PFAS issues. The San Francisco Bay Regional Water Board initiated this probe to discover if fire-fighting foams are a significant contamination source. While Fire Station 10 showed low contamination, further investigations are needed at the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department's training center, where higher levels of PFAS were detected, especially within the vicinity of the facility.
"Our goal is to rule in or rule out the LPFD fire station facilities as potential PFAS sources to groundwater by the end of 2025," Naugle said.
"The highest concentrations of contaminants were found on the west side of the training facility, and the lowest level of contaminants were found 400 feet from the site's training tower."
