Oshawa's Labour Day picnic is back on at Memorial Park with one key change: no bouncy castle | CBC News
The Labour Day picnic will be held at Memorial Park in September without a bouncy castle. The Durham Region Labour Council reached a deal with the city after new March restrictions limited permitted events at the park. The rules restrict gatherings to heritage or memorial ceremonies involving the War Memorial and performing arts at the McLaughlin Bandshell. Mary Fowler said the city’s approval came with only the bouncy castle removal as an added condition. Fowler also reported ongoing friction over the legal authority for the restrictions, after challenges by community groups and Coun. Derek Giberson. Giberson questioned whether city staff could change policy without a formal council vote, and his motion for a broader council discussion was defeated 5-5 in March.
