Man who bit Orange County police officer dies in custody after arrest

A man died early Sunday in custody after exhibiting erratic behavior and biting a police officer during his arrest in Fullerton. Initially spotted by an officer at Lemon Park, he resisted arrest, prompting additional officers to assist. After being restrained, he reportedly suffered a medical emergency, leading to life-saving measures being initiated by paramedics. Despite rushing him to the hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Orange County District Attorney's Office.
Police said the man looked to be holding a smoldering cardboard box and "was acting erratic." A Fullerton police officer first spotted the man around 12:31 a.m.
After a struggle during his arrest, which involved the man biting an officer, he later suffered a medical emergency and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
