Alfonso Sotelo, known for transforming Chicago's Mexican dining scene with 5 Rabanitos in Pilsen, has opened a new location in Hyde Park. Since launching in late February, the restaurant has garnered significant popularity, often selling out of food quickly. While the success is gratifying, it poses challenges in turning away customers. The menu reflects Sotelo's roots in Guerrero, featuring traditional dishes like puerco al rancho and torta ahogada, alongside vibrant murals that celebrate his journey and heritage. The new location also offers exclusive items, enhancing the dining experience.
The name 5 Rabanitos, meaning ‘five little radishes’, pays homage to my childhood selling radishes in Guerrero, marking a significant aspect of our family's story.
While I am encouraged by the strong turnout and sell-out nights, it is tough to send away customers; every seat represents someone's desire for our food.
