Jessica Poundstone's book, Museum of Dogs: A Romp Through Art History for Dog People, explores the depiction of dogs in art from the Bronze Age to contemporary works. After curating over 100 pieces of art and visiting 27 museums worldwide in just two years, Poundstone delves into fascinating trivia and connections between dogs and artistic expression. She highlights the accessibility of art online, emphasizing how museums are enabling broader public engagement with their collections, making art history more democratic and inclusive for everyone.
"The results were full of freaking treasures," Poundstone recalled. "Just stuff I had never seen and never would have expected to see. That was the beginning of this obsession to find more."
Poundstone emphasizes that unlike in previous times when authors might have had to travel extensively for research, much of this art research can now be done online.
"It really feels like the democratization of a lot of these treasures that really kind of belong to the world to begin with."
Poundstone’s book, Museum of Dogs, showcases how dogs have inspired art throughout history, highlighting a connection as old as the Bronze Age.
