Spencer Huey, a chef at Chez Panisse, is gearing up for his Fourth Annual Tomato Plant Sale in Berkeley, where he will sell around 1,000 plants including rare tomato varieties. Huey’s gardening journey began in childhood alongside his grandmother and blossomed during the pandemic where he expanded his garden dramatically. Having sold plants successfully at pop-up markets, and after a year-long adventure in Japan, he returns in 2025 to continue his unique blend of gardening and cooking, becoming a beloved figure among local gardeners.
"I say I'm going to cut back every year," Huey laughs, highlighting his ongoing commitment to growing a large variety of tomato plants with great enthusiasm.
