Astoria's oldest Irish bar, Cronin & Phelan's, celebrates St. Patrick's Day with tradition and community - Queens Post
Briefly

This St. Patrick's Day, Cronin & Phelan's, the oldest bar in Astoria, showcased its Irish roots by serving traditional dishes and welcoming a diverse crowd. Night manager Dave Cremin, with 32 years at the bar, enhances the atmosphere with his magic performances. While the staff has diversified beyond Irish heritage, the essence of Irish hospitality remains. The pub has also been a community pillar, hosting fundraisers and rallying support for employees in need, embodying its enduring legacy of warmth and connection since 1902.
"I always said that the history of this place would be fascinating, and even more fascinating, if the walls could talk," said Cremin.
"Hospitality is the number one thing, and that's no secret here. If everyone did that, we'd have a great time," Cremin says.
The strong sense of community that Cronin & Phelan's has fostered since 1902 extends well beyond the bar.
For longtime customer Thomas Sainsbry, the connection to Cronin & Phelan's is deeply personal-his godparents once lived upstairs, making the pub a cherished part of his life.
